Early Music

The National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) is the national advocate of early music in England providing early music experiences and opportunities of the highest quality to an ever widening and diversified community and promotes St Margaret's as a significant venue for music and creative learning in York.

Highlights of the NCEM's annual programme includes three early music festivals - the York Early Music Festival , the York Early Music Christmas Festival and the Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival . Support for young professionals working in the field of early music is offered through the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition and we aim to create interest in and appreciation of early music in young composers through its annual NCEM Young Composers Award. The NCEM maintains an Directory of Early Music specialists working the UK and support for younger musicians is offered through The Minster Minstrels . The NCEM also sustains a year-round educational programme encompassing a wide range of musical genres including jazz, folk, world and early music, an annual summer school and a series of learning resources.

The NCEM is a member of the European Early Music Network, REMA. REMA encompasses 63 early music festivals from 21 European countries see www.rema-eemn.net
